ICL沿用高科技胶原类材料——Collamer，该材料在人体内没有任何排异反应，可以终身放在眼内。而且，Collamer含有紫外线阻断功能，可以减少有害紫外线进入眼内，从而有效遏制了因紫外线引发的相关眼病。
ICL植入术和角膜激光手术不同，手术不对角膜组织进行切削，而是通过微创手术的方式将晶体植入到眼内，整个植入过程只需5-10分钟，是矫正近视的理想选择，尤其对度数太高、角膜太薄而不能做激光矫正手术的近视患者。
